Design Audit
With these ideas and innovative styles Rohan can appeal to a large market of consumers. Including the range of objects Nicols makes. He creates household objects and accessories, like his Fanger design of a modern coathanger with a swivel top, or Handbag that is a combination of sleek shape and elementary colours. and Rohans work is very smooth in shape, form and texture. He sees himself as a craftsman as he undertakes the entire craftsmanship process from concept to development.
For his past exhibitions Rohan Nicols has used the name of UBLO,I must say a very original and unique name that directly reflects his design. As this design audit is to extract everything important, special and interesting about Nicols design I am going to probably stick with using his name so that people can recongnise and get to know Rohan on a more personal basis with how he treats his work and design process. This is quite appealing I would think to have your work displayed directly under your name so that it is instantly recognisable.UBLO is a good name but unless you are familiar with the work and Nicols himself you may not know he created the objects he has. So for broading the audience definately the name should be linked and expressed on the upcoming designs.
In my research I have noticed that alot of the successful industrial designers seem to make a statement with their logo. This is usually done by the name being quite bold and contrasted. I believe this would work well especially in grabbing attention to the products, as a very small soft logo would just pass in the breeze.Although not all of the logo and logotype should be too loud and garish as I am reflecting the personality of Nicols and his work in the overall identity which I dont believe he would fit into.
The type of consumer that would fit into Nicols catagory would most likely be in a city area,or one with interesting culture. As his designs are individual with that smooth organic look rather than say a traditional leather wallet the age group would also be slightly younger than most consumers in the household audience would be.
In closing Rohan Nicols is a craftsman in industrial design. The public need to know this and be familiar with his designs,to recognise them and the style in which they are made. By creating a unique identity which successfully portrays his personal culture of production a particular point to look at would be shape, colour, texture and I think its important that his identity needs to include development. His work is not going to stop so it really needs to portray Rohans style as a whole.

Outcomes
Phillip Stark
Its quite bold and modern, including alot of space again this design is not really a combination of logo and logotype but it works well. the colours also suit the style and ambience Nicols radiates in his work.By using a not so vibrant colour is a sense of welcoming and personal experience with the projects i think.Dandelion is a creation by the designsojourn company. It is attentive and symbolises the natural of plantlife with a nice readable logotype that screams quality of design. This is great because Nicols needs a professional yet hands on identity.
Mike Speero- This logo is so organic and yet structured at the bottom, this natural yet stable element in my designs would be great to achieve. His name is bold with transparency as the logo in this designers identity is the main focus, I dont think I want the logo to be more noticeable then Rohan Nicols himself.Resound Design-In this particular design, quite retro though the logotype is put together in a nice way with a little bit of over lap but I think thats fine.I like the simple repeating patterns it encompasses the identity.
MOCO Design Tokyo- Moco is very plain I guess but I do like the style of it. Very legible so there is no mistaking this design. The black and the grey are complimentary in that there is not an overpowering colour. The logotype is spacious and is a statement that goes well, perhaps too much text
House product lines
Bloominglites unique lighting-
The photographs of the designs for lights are quite organic and different which draws viewers into the website, however this is the greatest appeal,it is bland, does not have alot of information or even photograhs themselves which there should be more for advertising. Including all the designs themselves being very natural they are not portrayed as a decorative company in all other aspects of their contact with the public except images.
TupperwareThis household company is 60 years old and is slowly trying to include its new products into their image however when someone thinks of tupperware obviously the first thing that comes to mind is the regular, original designs of light pastals and plastic. This was a new innovation of preserving foods longer in an air tight seal. Since Tupperware was asuch a hit in the 50s the company doesnt seem to change that much with a quite plain logo and not a very exciting style of presentation. The new products are nice and modern in colour and shape also materials yet they seem to be at the back of their identity not the front.

Proens design style is very clinical in the use of light, plain colours of grey and orange. The layout is quite spaced and even giving a sense of objective completement with the small calligraphic swirl. The grey represents the style of products that Proen makes like new technology within their appliances. I think that this logo and their identity is quite a professional and modern looking one, professionalism is a large key of building an image that I wish to encorporate in my designs.CMD is an industrial design company that deals with a range of products from concepts to production.Automotive, technology, medical, packaging and sporting all fall under this logo. However their sense of styling seems very plain organic shapes that do not portray a sense of wealth but of budget to which the products themselves are quite expensive. To look at the logo you would think it was a building company or health fund of some sort.
Konstrukt has a range of areas it creates products for such as chairs, magazines and eyewear although it is very basic, from the designs to the website there is not enough explanation of what they do exactly in the industrial world. People need to know what and who they are investing in.
http://www.buronorth.com/ BURO NORTH this industrial design company is quite simple with the text of the name being the companies logo. The site is quite youthful in colour but there is once again hardly any imaging. Examples of their work are very organic, artistic feel to them. From their image they are giving the idea they are there to do the job, not a friendly feel for customers.Motorvation produces a very friendly design company as the site is very easy to use and to contact them about a variety of design ideas or queries. They produce expensive products but do not advertise them as this so viewers have a chance to know the companys goals on a personal basis. In industrial design this needs to be more to the point, even though it is easy to use and understand in Motorvation you would not expect a quick response to your project.
http://www.designsojourn.com/ Design Sojourn is a very post modern industrial design identity.Always incorporating humour into their appearences and design. Even the logo starts very uniformed and develops into a scribble. Playfulness in the company. Everything is minimal and easy to access.
